KYOTO BICYCLE PARKING GUIDE
Where to Park Your Bicycle in Kyoto
Use designated bicycle parking only. Do not leave bicycles on streets or on private property that does not belong to you.
Important: In Kyoto, leaving a bicycle in a public place and walking away can be treated as abandoned parking even if it is only for a short time. Bicycles in prohibited public areas may be removed by the city.
❌ Do not park here
If you are unsure whether a place is permitted, do not leave the bicycle there.
Streets & sidewalks
Do not leave the bicycle on a road, sidewalk, guardrail or other public space unless it is clearly marked as bicycle parking.
✕
Anywhere marked “No bicycle parking”
Do not park where signs, cones, barriers or staff indicate that bicycle parking is prohibited.
✕
Private entrances & property
Do not park in front of apartments, condominiums, private parking spaces, guesthouses, hotels or shops unless that property has clearly allowed bicycle parking for you.
✓ You can park here
Look for a clearly designated bicycle parking area, parking racks, signs or instructions from staff.
✓
Designated bicycle parking
Use official parking lots or racks marked for bicycles. Follow the posted fee, time limit and locking instructions.
Station & public bicycle parking
Paid or public parking near stations is usually the safest option when sightseeing in busy areas.
✓
Your hotel or attraction — only if approved
You may use a hotel, temple, shrine or attraction bicycle parking area only when it is designated for visitors or staff has confirmed you can park there.

If a bicycle is removed
Kyoto City states that bicycles left in prohibited public areas can be removed. The current removal and storage recovery fee is ¥3,500 per bicycle.
If a NoriNori bicycle is removed, contact us immediately. The rider is responsible for the recovery process and related costs caused by improper parking.
Simple rule to remember
If you cannot clearly see that bicycle parking is allowed, do not park there. Find a designated bicycle parking area or ask the facility staff before leaving the bicycle.
